Abstract

Effects Of Mimba and Biochar on The Growth of Red Spinach Plants (Amaranthus tricolor L.). There are several natural substances can inhibit nitrificationin soils. Among them, neem with its antimicrobial properties capable to inhibit nitrification while biochar able to adsorb ammonium/nitrate, prevent N loss from the soil, and support to better plants growth. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of neem (leaves and seeds) and rice husk biochar on the growth of red spinach plants. The research was conducted at the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University, Soil and Environmental Biology Laboratory, and Agronomy and Horticulture Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, from May to October 2024. This study used a one-factor Completely Randomized Design consisting of 10 treatments, namely control (K), Urea (U), neem leaves (D), rice husk biochar (A), neem seeds (B), Urea + neem leaves (UD), Urea + neem seeds (UB), Urea + rice husk biochar (UA), Urea + neem leaves + rice husk biochar (UAD), and Urea + neem seeds + rice husk biochar (UAB) with each repeated 3 times, so there were 27 experimental units. The results showed that the tested treatment significantly affected the number of leaves and chlorophyll content. The Urea + rice husk biochar treatment had the highest number of leaves at 83.67 leaves and chlorophyll content of 34.87 SPAD-units compared to the control which had 60.33 leaves and chlorophyll content of 25.30 SPAD-units.
