**The Effect of the Extrusion Process on the Quality of 3D Printing Filament Made from Virgin ABS Plastic**
Abstract
Demand for 3D printing filament is increasing, but the high price of filament is an obstacle, especially for education and
individuals. This study aims to independently produce filament made from virgin ABS using the Filatec PRO 3in1 extrusion
machine with variations in puller speed to determine the effect of process parameters on filament outer diameter. Extrusion
was carried out at a barrel temperature of 200°C with a constant screw speed of 10 rpm and puller speed variations of 10 rpm
and 12 rpm. The measurement results show that an increase in puller speed will result in a decrease in filament outer diameter
from 1.62 mm to 1.01 mm. The diameter no longer conforms to the standard tolerance of 3D printing (1.75 ± 0.05 mm). It can
be concluded that the puller speed has an influence on the filament outer diameter results, and setting the extrusion process
parameters is very important to produce quality filaments.
