Abstract

In the field of machining, the percentage of failures caused by contact phenomena such as friction and wear is estimated to reach 80% of all failures that occur. The failure occurs due to the material surface that interacts will cause wear on the area that experiences the contact, and is expected to know the influence of the contact angle on a certain load and the influence of the load on a certain contact angle on the contact area and pressure maximum. This research method is a test of contact between two objects using ST 60 steel material with lateral curvature of 13mm and 20mm and varied with test angles of 18°, 36°, 54°, 72°, 90°, with the load used 2N, 3N, 4N, 5N, 6N, 7N, 8N. In this study, it is expected to be able to determine the area of contact due to surface contact. The results of the study show that under the influence of the contact angle on a certain load, the larger the contact angle, the greater the contact area and the smaller the maximum pressure. On the influence of the load at a certain contact angle, the greater the load, the greater the contact area and the maximum pressure that occurs.
