Framing Analysis, Robert N. Entman, Allkpop

Abstrak

The growing influence of digital media plays a critical role in shaping public perception of conflicts in the South Korean entertainment industry, particularly within K-pop. This study analyzes media framing in Allkpop’s coverage of the conflict between HYBE Corporation and Min Hee Jin. Using a qualitative method and Robert N. Entman’s framing analysis—comprising four elements: define problems, diagnose causes, make moral judgment, and treatment recommendation—this research examines eight articles published between April and November 2024. The findings reveal that Allkpop framed the conflict as an internal dispute, portraying Min Hee Jin as defensive in asserting her rights within ADOR. The cause was attributed to HYBE’s unethical response and lack of action regarding plagiarism accusations. The moral framing presented HYBE as firm in countering Min’s claims, reinforcing a positive image of the company. Meanwhile, the solution framing emphasized Min’s resignation, portraying her as graceful and principled. Allkpop’s coverage positioned Min as a vocal critic of managerial injustice, thus shaping a nuanced public narrative. This study concludes that media not only reports events but also constructs social reality through selective emphasis and narrative framing.
