The massive use of media have driven social media platforms to continuously update their features to stay relevant. One of the newest features on the X platform is the community feature. The Komunitas Marah-Marah has emerged as a space that provides its users with a place to vent their emotions, often sparking pros and cons due to its highly aggressive nature. This study aims to analyze the audience’s motives in consuming content from the Komunitas Marah-Marah on X. This research employed a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with six informants from the community. The findings reveal that the audience’s motives for consuming content from this community include: spending leisure time while venting emotions (diversion motive), experiencing emotional closeness and mutual support (personal relationship motive), gaining validation for the emotions they feel (personal identity motive), and seeking information on social or criminal cases (surveillance motive). Insights from these experiences show that, despite its anger-driven content, the community serves as a safe space for some users, a medium of social support, and even a source of new information. Thus, users’ experiences in this community illustrate how audiences actively select and interpret media according to their needs and life contexts.
