REVITALISASI BAHASA DAERAH:PRAKTIK BAIK PELINDUNGAN BAHASA IBU DI PROVINSI BALI
Abstract
This paper aims to convey the best practices in protecting the mother tongue in Bali Province, as implemented by the Bali Provincial Language Center. As a Technical Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education under the Language Development and Guidance Agency, the Bali Provincial Language Center has been protecting the mother tongue, namely the Balinese language, through the revitalization of regional languages (Balinese) since 2022. The objectives of the Balinese language revitalization program are to preserve the Balinese language, increase the number of active speakers, strengthen the function of the Balinese language, preserve cultural values and local wisdom, foster a positive attitude and pride in the Balinese language, and support regional language protection policies. The protection of the mother tongue is carried out through several stages, namely (1) Coordination between Agencies and Local Governments, (2) Focus Group Discussions, (3) Technical Guidance for Main Teachers, (4) Monitoring and Evaluation, (5) Mother Tongue Festival, and (6) Short Story Writing Camp. In carrying out these activities, the Bali Provincial Language Center collaborates with local governments, educational units, universities, communities, cultural artists, and writers. The target of this activity is the mother tongue youth, namely elementary and junior high school students. Based on monitoring and evaluation conducted, thousands of teachers and students are impacted by regional language revitalization each year. Since 2022, a total of 37,225 individuals have been recorded.
