ANALISIS PROSES FONOLOGIS BAHASA BALI DIALEK JEMBRANA DALAM KONTEN TIKTOK KREATOR @KOALAKEPO

Abstract

Balinese language has various dialects, one of which is the Jembrana dialect, known for its distinctive and unique phonological characteristics compared to other Balinese dialects. This dialect is often perceived as “unusual” by speakers from other regions due to noticeable sound changes in everyday speech. Recently, the Jembrana dialect has gained wider attention through digital content created by a local content creator using the TikTok username @koalakepo, who consistently uses the Jembrana dialect in his videos. This study aims to analyze the phonological processes found in the Balinese language of the Jembrana dialect as used in the content. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected by observing and watching several popular videos uploaded by the content creator, then identifying and recording phonological changes occurring in the utterances. The data were analyzed using generative phonology theory by applying distinctive features and phonological rules. The results show that several phonological processes are prominent in the Jembrana dialect, including progressive assimilation, sound deletion, and vowel changes. These processes occur as natural strategies to facilitate articulation and maintain fluency in speech. The study concludes that the phonological uniqueness of the Balinese Jembrana dialect can be systematically explained through generative phonological rules, and it confirms that dialectal variation is a natural and  rule-governed linguistic phenomenon.
