Abstract

The affixes meN-kan and meN-i are important morphological markers that distinguish the semantic and syntactic structures of transitive verbs in Indonesian. Although both can form object verbs, the affixes meN-kan and meN-i have different semantic functions and distributions. This research aimed at analyzing the acquisition or semantic tendency in the use of the transitive verbs meN-kan and meN-i by Indonesian speakers when assessing the grammaticality of a sentence. It used a quantitative experimental approach based online through the Gorilla.sc platform, involving 34 participants. The research instrument used consisted of 120 sentences formed from 60 basic Indonesian verbs, each of which was inserted with the affixes meN-kan and meN-i. The data obtained were then analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics, specifically using five tests: the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test, normality test, reliability test, descriptive statistics test, and Spearman's correlation test. The results showed that transitive verbs with the meN-i affix were processed more efficiently by participants, as evidenced by higher average scores, smaller assessment variations, and significant test results. In addition, although both types of affixes showed high reliability, only the meN-kan affix was normally distributed, while the meN-i affix was not normally distributed. Furthermore, there was no significant relationship between the ratings of the meN-kan and meN-i affixes, indicating that each type of affix was processed independently by each participant.
