Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of language interference in the use of Balinese language within the comment section of the TikTok account Amak Gebuh (@nilaayu__). This research is conducted based on the increasing language contact occurring in digital spaces, particularly on social media, which causes Indonesian language elements and foreign languages to interfere Balinese language utterances. This study aims to identify the forms of interference that emerge and analyze the factors that influence the occurrence based on the theories proposed by Jendra (2007) and Weinreich (1953). The research employed qualitative descriptive method using observation and documentation techniques. Screenshots of comments containing indications of interference were classified into five categories: phonological, morphological, syntactic, lexical, and semantic interference. The findings indicated that lexical interference was the most dominant form, characterized by the repeated use of Indonesian language and English vocabulary within Balinese language structures. Furthermore, the mostinfluential factors contributing to interference are the bilingual condition of speakers and the limited availability of Balinese vocabulary, particularly for modern concepts or digital terminology. The study concludes that social media functions as a space that accelerates language contact, making interference unavoidable and simultaneously reflecting the dynamic development of the Balinese language in contemporary communication contexts.
